Water Committee Meeting

October 15, 1998

The Water Management Committee (WMC) meeting began at 10:30 a.m. in Denver, Colorado. The WMC discussed the upcoming workshop with the Boyle Team regarding development of the Water Budgets for the Water Conservation/Supply Reconnaissance Study (Study).

The Scope of Work written by the WMC for the Study states that the WMC will work collaboratively with the Consultant on the water budgets and will provide additional information, as available, to the Consultant. The collaboration envisioned by the WMC was to provided the Boyle Team with the data needed for the water budgets developed and to review the water budgets.

The WMC Chairman and the Executive Director met with Study Team Leader, Blaine Dwyer, prior to the WMC meeting to discuss the Study schedule and the design of the water budgets. The Boyle Team is waiting for the WMC to provide the information for the water budgets including existing flow conditions, loss factors, and hydrologically connected ground water before water budgets can be developed. The Boyle Team's initial water budget design is to route water identified for an alternative to the critical habitat without regard for operational constraints associated with the reservoirs. If needed, additional spreadsheets that simulated the reservoirs' operations would be created and integrated into the water budgets. The WMC identified the need for the Boyle Team to meet with the operators of the reservoirs in the Study area to discuss the operations of the reservoirs.

The WMC chairman discussed with the WMC the expected outcome of the water budgets workshop. The expected outcome included establishing the framework for the water budgets, identifying data needs for the water budgets, and explaining the monthly loss factors developed by the W14-1 Subgroup for use in the water budgets.

The meeting adjourned at 12:00 p.m.
